CANOPUS NOTE ▶Canopus, the main text paper, was developed after much prototyping and testing, seeking a soft writing feel, compatibility with a wide range of inks, and beautiful color. Yamamoto Paper has done its best to create this paper. It's perfect for enjoying color inks, with its shading and sheen. We hope you enjoy it.

▶Passion for New Paper: Cosmo Air Light, which received rave reviews from many writing enthusiasts at the 2019 San Francisco Pen Show. However, its brilliance came to an end with the discontinuation of production in 2022. Since that day, we have wandered a long way. Convinced that the paper Nippon Paper Industries chose as its successor would not be able to rekindle that excitement, Yamamoto Paper has continued to research and explore new paper options. However, the road has not been smooth. The Japanese paper industry, struggling against the current trends, is halting and scrapping old paper machines and consolidating various paper types in an effort to survive. Taking on the challenge of developing a new paper in such a harsh environment was a daunting task. Nevertheless, we believed that Yamamoto Paper's mission was to embrace the quality and passion that Japanese papermakers put into each piece of paper and share it with the world. Over the course of three years, we poured all our energy into this project.

▶ Canopus 73g/㎡ The main text is blank for unrestricted use. It also comes with a 12mm-ruled, 6mm-grid writing pad. When selecting the thickness of the main text, we conducted numerous tests. After considering various factors, including recognition from notebook fans worldwide, transparency of the writing pad, and writing comfort, we settled on 73.0g/㎡. Canopus is a product of Japan's world-renowned "bulky" papermaking technology. 73.0g/㎡ has a thickness of 120±3μm, which is equivalent to approximately 150.0g/㎡ for coated paper. In other words, despite being a similar thickness, Canopus is approximately 50% lighter. Therefore, the CANOPUS NOTE is a very light notebook considering its texture and volume.

▶Why is this paper named Canopus? Canopus is the second brightest star in the sky, located approximately 310 light-years away. Its intense, dazzling light makes it also known in Japan as the "Star of Longevity" or "Star of Old Man." It is believed to be the origin of the Seven Lucky Gods, "Fukurokuju" and "Jurojin." Legend has it that this star is invisible during times of war or unrest, but "it can be seen when the world is at peace." It is said that those who see this star pray for happiness and longevity. Since the northernmost limit of visibility for Canopus is 37.9 degrees north latitude, it is extremely difficult to find in the Northern Hemisphere, including Japan. Many people travel to the Southern Hemisphere to see its beautiful form. We named this beautiful paper "Canopus" to reflect the arduous journey of repeated research and exploration that led us to this star, and our hope for peaceful times born from "writing and drawing."

▶Binding [Sewn Thread] Opened and closed many times every day, opened flat to the spine 180 degrees, or folded 360 degrees. Notebooks must be bound to withstand harsh environments. CANOPUS NOTE is bound using a method called "sewn thread." Every page is stitched in 12 places, approximately every 15 mm, ensuring pages will not come loose even after a long time. Thread binding is also used for hardcover books and planners. □Binding [Spine Smoothing] After the stitching process, even pressure is applied to the spine to prevent the paper from bouncing or bulging. This spine smoothing process is repeated multiple times to create the beautiful, sharp corners of the CANOPUS NOTE.

▶Binding [Rounded Corners] The top and bottom edges of the notebook are rounded to prevent the corners from bending. This may be a small detail, but it makes a big difference over time.

■Size: A5. Main text: Plain. Included: Paper underlay (12mm ruled, 6mm grid). Number of pages: 176. Canopus 73g/m². *Oils from your hands may repel the ink. We recommend placing a piece of paper or tissue under your hand.
