GARDEN Claude Monet 1840-1926 "The Artist's Garden at Vétheuil" (1881) This painting depicts the garden of the house Monet rented in Vétheuil, a village on the right bank of the Seine River northwest of Paris. Monet was in the depths of despair after his wife Camille passed away, leaving behind two sons, but this work was produced during a period when he was beginning to recover, thanks to the devoted support of Alice Hoschedé, who would later become his second wife. The delicate touches beautifully capture the glittering atmosphere of sunlight and blooming sunflowers. Norton Simon Museum: The Norton Simon Museum has a large collection of art from South and Southeast Asia. It has a particularly rich collection of works from the Indian subcontinent, including stone carvings from the Kushan and Gupta periods and bronze statues from the Chola dynasty.
